New advanced vehicle monitoring and diagnostic systems have been developed to provide fast maintenance turnaround between missions. These systems store data about vehicle operation, including potential damaging events, in real-time for later use in diagnosis of issues and quick determination of vehicle health.

Solid state disks are a key component in these systems. They provide reliable storage of operational data even in the face of extreme shock and vibration. In some cases, they are mounted in removable canisters for ease in moving the data to diagnostic systems for analysis.
