Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Announces Contract for Satellite Communications Frequency Converters Melville, New York - June 3, 1998 - Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq: CMTL) announced today the award to its Arizona operating unit, Comtech Communications Corporation (CCC), of a contract valued at approximately $500,000 for satellite communications frequency converters to be used in the expansion of the Hughes DirecTV® direct broadcast satellite service.

DirectTV® plans to use multiple Ku-band transponders to further expand its programming lineup in the US with a broad array of diverse special-interest services, to currently underserved consumer segments, that will include niche programming, future business-to-business applications and high definition television (HDTV) programming. DirectTV® currently provides more than 3.3 million subscribers with access to more than 175 channels of entertainment, sports, news and family programming.

The Comtech frequency converters, operating in both the 14GHz and 18GHz frequency bands, will be used to uplink the programming from DirectTV® broadcast centers to various satellites. The frequency converters are scheduled for delivery by August 15, 1998.

DirectTV, Inc. is a subsidiary of Hughes Communications and offers commercial satellite television services to the US. The orbital part of the system consists of three (3) Hughes-built geosynchronous satellites. Broadcast services began in mid-1994.
